Counseling for Women

Are You A Woman In Need Of Empathetic Support?

Do you struggle with symptoms of anxiety and depression as you feel pressure to juggle life’s demands?

Have you recently gone through a life-changing transition, such as making a big move, becoming a mother, or going through a divorce/separation?

Are you looking for support, guidance, and a sense of peace as you prepare for what’s next?

Life presents many unique obstacles for women, many of which relate to our careers, identities, and familial roles.

It may be that challenges in your intimate relationship have left you feeling doubtful or confused. As a couple, questions about your future are bound to arise whether you’re in a new relationship, considering getting married, or in a long-term, committed partnership. You may feel like you lack support, unable to get everything you need from your partner.

Yet, when you look to family, friends, and peers, you may experience social isolation or anxiety. Perhaps you experience self-doubt or feel the need to appear as having it all together. Discouraged by an inability to create meaningful, authentic connections with others, you may feel unmotivated and hopeless to make positive change in your relationships.

Are Your Work And Other Obligations Adding To Everyday Stress?

In addition to problems related to social connection and intimacy, many women’s issues involve a lack of balance, which often leads to further anxiety, shame, and burnout.

You may be struggling with aspects of your career as you have trouble maintaining a work-life balance. Striving to achieve and meet the high standards that you’ve set for yourself, you may feel like you’ll never be adequate or satisfied no matter what you do.

At home, you may be feeling depleted and distressed. As a working or stay-at-home mom, you’re probably always competing with the clock to get everyone taken care of and get everything done. You may feel overwhelmed because others rely on you so much. Yet a sense of guilt keeps you from saying no or creating boundaries.

These common challenges faced by women can lead to emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, and a variety of other mental health concerns—but counseling can help. By seeking the guidance of a therapist, you can feel supported as you explore life’s big questions and re-establish your path.

Our Culture Places Many Demands On Women In Particular

In today’s modern world, we as women have more demands on us than ever before. Between providing for our partners and families, maintaining a career, and making time to tend to our needs as individuals, the pressure quickly builds up and creates lingering distress. Therefore, it’s completely normal that women commonly experience feelings of frustration and sadness.

Everyday stressors relating to our work and relationships are hard enough, but significant transitions and life events can greatly contribute to feelings of distress, creating a dire effect on our mental health.

It can be difficult to navigate fears and worries alone, and the stigma of mental health combined with a desire to appear “together” can create barriers for women seeking the help they need.

Yet therapy designed for women can allow you to see other ways of being besides living in stress. By participating in the kind of meaningful self-care that will help you thrive and feel content, counseling allows you to find new and affirming possibilities.

Counseling Offers Women Opportunities For Clarity,
Self-Care, And Empowerment

With everything you have going on, you probably don’t have many chances to clear your head and make the space needed to understand how everyday stressors have impacted your mental health. Therapy gives you a rare chance to explore your thoughts, feelings, and fears with a trained and empathetic clinician who understands what we go through as women, offering support and meaningful solutions along the way.

My Approach To Therapy For Women

I create an open and authentic counseling atmosphere where my clients can feel supported to explore gender roles, their identity as a caregiver, relationship issues, career hurdles, and other common challenges faced by women.

As I learn more about your history and presenting problems throughout your intake and initial sessions, I will work to understand your unique strengths and help you develop tailored skills for coping.

Using elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—a tried and true method for targeting symptoms of anxiety, depression, and distress—I will help you adjust your relationship with your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By talking through your experiences and emotional responses, you will facilitate new patterns to replace the old ones that are no longer serving you.

In addition to evidence-based models, I will use our therapeutic relationship to instill a sense of increased self-esteem and empowerment in counseling. Because I am both solution-focused and person-centered, I will approach our sessions collaboratively so that we can develop a customized treatment plan that meets your needs.

I know you’re feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and hopeless, but newfound joy and healing are possible. With counseling, you can overcome the hurdles created by anxiety, depression, everyday stress, and women-specific issues.

Maybe You’re Considering Therapy But Still Unsure…

I just don’t have time for counseling.

As busy, high-achieving women, it can be challenging for us to find time for counseling and other acts of self-care. However, therapy is an investment in yourself. And like any good investment, it has the potential to pay off and create lasting benefits in your life.

If you’re struggling, you deserve to feel better. I am confident that you’ll ultimately make the most of the time you have by investing in your mental health.

I tried therapy before, but it didn’t seem to work for me.

There are many possible reasons that your past experiences with a therapist may not have produced meaningful results. For many women, the therapist-client relationship is the most important factor in determining whether or not counseling will be effective.

My counseling style relies on getting to know you on a deep level so that I can understand your strengths, enhance your self-esteem, and instill you with a sense of empowerment to chart a path that works for you. I do not take a generic approach but will instead highly personalize solutions to meet your needs.

I’m worried that seeing a therapist means there is something wrong with me or that others will think I’m crazy.

Any issue preventing you from seeking help—including your fears around what your partner, family, or other women might think—is worth exploring in therapy. Together, we can work to understand what’s keeping you anxious and distressed so that we can identify the core of the issue and overcome it.

Having individualized support is so important, and counseling is a great way to create the life you want, driven by possibility instead of fear.
